The community showed up in full expectations to have a great meal and of course, help out Italy graduates with the desire to attend college or technical school. The 18th Annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Dinner was attended on Friday night before the Italy High School Homecoming game by many ex-students, community members and friends of scholarship recipients-well over 200 people.

George E. Scott was the superintendent for Italy ISD from 1967-1991. One of his dreams was to make sure every student in Italy had an opportunity to attend college. He personally began the fund in 1986. Since then, many supporters continue Scott’s dream with donations. Naturally, this is easy to do when you see the grateful faces of recipients come back each year and thank donors at this annual BBQ dinner.

Homecoming is a splendid time for ex-students to come home again and enjoy the camaraderie and encourage the next group of recipients to stay focused. The IHS 2010 scholarship recipients were Brandon Owens, Lexi Miller, Ivan Roldan and Josh Milligan.
